About me
With a diverse background encompassing 20 years in the commercial property sector and a current role as a psychotherapist, I have developed a profound interest in understanding the factors that shape our behaviours and choices. This fascination drove me to pursue a career in psychotherapy, where I have discovered the crucial role of relationships and their influence on our self-perception and interpersonal dynamics.
My experience is enriched by a deep appreciation for cultural diversity, traditions, and values. I am genuinely captivated by the wide array of behaviours and beliefs that stem from various backgrounds and customs, and I possess extensive experience in navigating this domain. I acknowledge that psychological and emotional difficulties can manifest within cultural or family systems, where the concept of psychotherapy may be met with scepticism. Many challenges arise concerning identity, integration, and self-worth.
Throughout my journey, I have worked across several specialized areas, including my ongoing commitment to the National Health Service (NHS) at Guys Hospital, alongside my private practice. These diverse settings have inspired me to adopt a relational, psychodynamic approach to psychotherapy, recognizing the significance of establishing meaningful connections with my clients.
I have undergone training in bereavement and loss, and this experience has highlighted the inherent presence of separation and endings in our everyday lives, whether in relationships or careers. By collaborating with individuals, I guide them towards accepting their new reality and assist in making the necessary adjustments to reclaim their personal power and move beyond their grief.
In addition, I possess expertise in working with addiction, including eating disorders, where complete abstinence may not be feasible. Complications with food or other addictive behaviours can emerge from various underlying factors, leading to emotional, relational, and physiological difficulties. Utilizing the therapeutic relationship as a foundation, I work collaboratively with clients to identify the root causes of these behaviours and facilitate a comprehensive understanding that paves the way for transformative change.
